I received a surprise telephone call this morning from BSS informing me that I had been given a slot to compete in Slalom at the 2015 World Junior Championships in Hafjell, Norway.
I am extremely honoured that the BSS selectors offered me this opportunity to have a place on the GB team at this world event and very pleased that my recent FIS ski racing achievements have been recognised so highly by the selectors. I hadn’t set the Junior World Champs as one of my goals this season.
However, after a long and hard deliberation, I made the difficult decision to decline the offer of my Slalom place. I thought about the long term pathway that I am currently following with my coaches. Participation at the World Junior Champs would be a tremendous experience but I would rather set my sight on hopefully being given another chance in future years when I feel I can go to a major competition such as this and be more competitive against Europa Cup and World Cup level athletes rather than just soaking up an experience. I wish the GB team at this event Good Luck.
